My Generation - 50 Years of The Who
The Who were one of the greatest rock bands of all-time. Formed in 1964, they were renowned for awesome live shows, crazy on and off-stage antics and were also credited with creating two of the greatest rock operas of all time – ‘Tommy’ and ‘Quadrophenia’.
Now for the first time in Australia, to celebrate The Who's 50th anniversary, three of Australia’s finest singers have banded together to create an unforgettable tribute to this remarkable rock band. Ciaran Gribbin (INXS), Steve Balbi (Noiseworks), Simon Meli (The Widowbirds & ‘The Voice’), and a red-hot band led by Jak Housden of The Whitlams, will take you on a journey through all the biggest ‘Who’ hits including: ‘My Generation’, ‘Substitute’, ‘Who Are You?’ and ‘Pinball Wizard’.
The Who was part of the ‘Mod Movement’, playing R&B music in stylized tailored suits, before morphing into an unruly proto-punk band famous for smashing their instruments at the end of live performances. This period is epitomized by the oft-mentioned lyric ‘Hope I die before I get old’ in the band's 1965 tune ‘My Generation’.
